Hughes You Can Use
2/3/10 - Jeff Hughes of 1790 Cincinnati Express has catapulted himself to the top of the PASL-Pro scoring charts with a sizzling five goal, two assist performance against the Ohio Vortex.
Hughes gave Cincinnati a 15-5 win to stay atop the Eastern Division by one game over the Louisville Lightning, who dispatched Detroit 15-6 on the same night.
In 11 games this season, Hughes is nearly averaging a hat trick per game with a league-leading 27 goals and nine assists for 36 points.
Last year, Jeff was named to the PASL-Pro All-League Second Team as a defender with 17 goals and four assists in 13 games. This year he is roaming the midfield and shooting frequently and accurately.
PASL-Pro Game Action
The San Diego Sockers put a stranglehold on the Western Division with an 11-10 win over the California Cougars on Thursday at Stockton Arena.
California made a valiant effort rallying to cut a 9-4 deficit down to one goal three times, but could not find the equalizer. San Diego's magic number dropped to one.
The Prince George Fury picked up their first two wins in franchise history, clubbing the Wenatchee Fire 14-1 and 13-3 on Saturday. Wenatchee had won the first meeting 11-10.
In Edmonton, the Calgary United got their fourth straight win, edging the Drillers 7-6 on a last minute goal.

Shawn Rockey, 1790 Cincinnati Express
Rockey, who earned a spot on the 2008/09 PASL-Pro All-League Second Team, set a PASL-Pro record with six assists in Cincinnati's 15-5 win over Ohio. Four players had previously had five assists in one game. Three of his assists came on Jeff Hughes goals and the other three came on Sam Fiore goals.

The Express had a notable weekend. Fueled by Hughes' league-leading exploits, Rockey's record assist night and Fiore's successful return from injury (four goals, two assists), Cincinnati improved to 13-0 all-time at Game Time Training Center. This Saturday Ohio gets another shot to try to knock off their cross-state rivals and end 1790's home dominance.
Matt Mehrassa, Prince George Fury
One of the few players with professional indoor experience on the expansion Prince George Fury's roster, Mehrassa is lighting it up for the Fury. His father, John, owns the team, but his 11 goals and 12 assists in just six games speaks for itself, putting him in the league's top 10 in scoring. Mehrassa spent last year playing for Fury coach Sipho Sibiya in Saskatoon, making the long commute from Prince George to Saskatchewan for games. Now he can shine in front of his hometown fans.

Sibiya's indoor career has been long and eventful. The 38-year old player/coach of Prince George Fury has played for such teams as the Edmonton Drillers, Baltimore Blast, and Milwaukee Wave. Last year he made just two scoreless appearances for the Saskatoon Accelerators. This year he is a major contributor to the Fury with eight goals and 10 assists in four games. His eight point game Saturday afternoon against Wenatchee matched Brian Farber for most points in a game this season.
Tyler Wood, Prince George Fury
The Fury plucked the 23 year old local away from Victoria last week and put him on their roster to give themselves a big target man up front and boy did he pay instant dividends. Not only did he score a goal and an assist in Saturday afternoon's 14-1 win over Wenatchee, but he followed it up with four goals and three assists that evening against the Fire to lead a 13-3 win. For good measure he was credited with the game-winning goal in each of the two games.
