PASL-Pro Rivals Get Reacquainted to Christen Season

11/17/10 - Offseason? What offseason? The PASL-Pro returned on action Friday for season number three and it was business as usual in the early going.

The Louisville Lightning hosted the Cincinnati Kings and for the second straight year lost 6-5. The Lightning are 7-2 all-time at home in the regular season, but 0-2 on opening night. Last year's top goal scorer Jeff Hughes had three goals including the game-winner.

In the Western Division, the San Diego Sockers still have the California Cougars number, but Sunday's game wasn't nearly as close as all of last year's matchups were. The Sockers raced out to 4-0 and 9-2 leads and held on for a 10-6 win at Stockton Arena. Aaron Susi and Miguel "Chiky" Luna each had two goals for San Diego.

Detroit and Ohio were involved in their share of high scoring affairs last year and Saturday was no different with Ohio holding on for an 11-10 home win. Allen Eller picked up where he left off last year with five goals.

Two new teams squared off in Tacoma as professional arena soccer returned to the city for the first time since 1992. The Stars beat the expansion Kitsap Pumas 8-6 behind two goals and two assists each from Greg Howes and Leighton O'Brien.

Allen Eller, Ohio Vortex

Eller finished second in the league with 34 goals last year, but he got a big jump on the competition with a five-goal outburst in Ohio's 11-10 home opener victory over the Detroit Waza.

What's Up, Shorty?

The San Diego Sockers proved you can't keep a good team down a man. The Sockers scored two backbreaking shorthanded goals against the California Cougars and spoiled their home opener with a 10-6 trouncing of their rivals.

Hey Man, Nice Threads

The Vortex , Waza, and Tacoma Stars were looking sharp in their new uniforms. The Stars conjured images of 1987 with their throwbacks custom designed to resemble the jerseys Preki and Steve Zungul wore during the original Stars most successful season.
