Parker, Arias Annihilate Grand Slams as Cats Throttle Sea Dogs

MANCHESTER, NH - Two New Hampshire Fisher Cats' (17-21, 51-54) grand slams highlighted a 14-run thrashing of the Portland Sea Dogs (21-17, 56-50) on Friday night at Delta Dental Stadium in front of 7,200 fans. Fisher Cats' pitching stifled the Sea Dogs' bats in the contest as three arms combined for a 14-0 shutout.

Entering the season with three grand slams as a team, the Fisher Cats blasted two against the Sea Dogs in the win. In the bottom of the fifth inning, catcher Aaron Parker blasted the first slam of the night. In the eighth, center fielder Victor Arias pummeled the Cats' second.

Fisher Cats pitching struck out a combined 13 batters in the 14-0 win. Thompson Jr. (W, 1-1) twirled six shutout frames and racked up seven strikeouts in the win. The right-hander fired his second quality start and has allowed one run over his last 12 frames. Lefty Mason Olson pitched a perfect seventh inning and righty Alex Amalfi secured the final six outs, five of them strikeouts.

C Aaron Parker belts first career grand slam with his team-leading 14th homer OF Victor Arias highlighted a five-run eighth inning with his second grand slam of the night. Danny Thompson Jr. began the night with six shutout innings, his second consecutive quality start for his first Double-A win. INF Dub Gleed extended his hit streak to 10 with a 1-for-3 night at the plate. Every New Hampshire batter tallied a hit and six different batters recorded a multi-hit game. Fisher Cats tally sixth shutout victory.

New Hampshire struck first in the bottom of the third. Third baseman Cutter Coffey singled and right fielder Carter Cunningham doubled. With runners at second and third, second baseman Eric Snow rolled an RBI groundout. Two batters later, designated hitter Dub Gleed laced an RBI single and made it 2-0.

The Fisher Cats blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth. Cunningham led off the inning with another double. Snow singled and shortstop Nick Goodwin walked to load the bases. Following a popout, Parker (14) demolished a grand slam which extended New Hampshire's lead to six.

The Cats bats stayed hot in the bottom of the sixth and seventh. First baseman Tucker Toman (1) swatted his first Double-A home run. In the seventh, left fielder JR Freethy ripped a two-run single and extended the Fisher Cats lead to nine.

New Hampshire put an exclamation mark on their Friday contest with a five-run eighth inning that featured a grand slam from Arias (9). Amalfi followed with a scoreless ninth and secured a 14-0 win.

The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs finish their six-game series on Sunday, August 9 with a 1:05 PM first pitch. Right-hander Jackson Wentworth (5-6, 4.67 ERA) will start for New Hampshire and Portland will counter with righty Jedixson Paez (2-3, 4.43 ERA).
