Albany Panthers News Release
ALBANY, Georgia - The 2011 Champion Albany Panthers continue to bolster their training camp roster, recently signing a pair of indoor football all-stars looking to contribute and win another championship.
The Panthers signed two former Columbus Lions, defensive back Damien Daniels, a four time defensive player of the year, and linebacker Ryan Babb.
Daniels (5-10, 185, West Georgia) comes to the Panthers from the Columbus Lions. Daniels played four seasons for the Lions, earning first-team All-League honors in each of those four seasons to go along with his Defensive Player of the Year recognition. While showing the ability to be a dominant defensive back in the indoor game, Daniels has 59 career interceptions and led the league with 18 last season. His versatility should prove valuable to the Panthers and provide head coach Lucious Davis with another shutdown defensive back.
Babb (6-0, 215, Troy) led the Columbus Lions defense in 2011. Babb finished the season with 22.5 tackles, including a sack. He also added four interceptions, seven pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and scoring three touchdowns.
The 2012 Albany Panthers training camp begins on February 26. The team will hold a two-week training camp session before kicking off the 2012 season. Davis and the Panthers open the 2012 season on Saturday, March 17, against the Richmond Raiders. The game will kickoff at 7:30pm at the Albany/ James H. Gray Civic Center.
