Panthers Extend Roster With Former NFL Player

ALBANY, GA (March 2, 2010) - With April 3rd set as the start of their 2010 season, the Albany Panthers of the Southern Indoor Football League signed their second wave of players in hopes of field a championship caliber team.
Starting with defensive lineman Alton Pettway (6'1 275, Albany State University), Pettway was once a signee of the NFL's St. Louis Rams as an undrafted rookie back in 2007. With his innate ability to rush the passer, Pettway was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in Division II after racking up 14.5 sacks in 2006. Alton won back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2005 and 2006 while leading ASU to four consecutive SIAC Championships.
Wide receiver Marlon White (6'4 210, Vanderbilt) brings play-making ability to the Panthers receiving core. In his final season, White registered career highs with 34 receptions and six touchdowns for the Commodores. White has one-year arena experience with the AF2 Mahoning Valley Thunder.
Rounding out the Panthers signings are rookies defensive lineman Devon Lewis (6'5 293, Maryland), fullback Kevin Holmes (6'3 275, Albany State University) and offensive lineman LaJavier Baker (6'0 335, Dodge City Community College).
The Panthers will be holding a tryout this Saturday March 6th at Albany State University's football practice field. Registration begins at 9:00 am and the tryout will run from 10:00 am - 1:00 p.m.
The Albany Panthers are set to kickoff their training camp on March 13th and will host their season opener against the Columbus Lions on Saturday April 3rd at the Albany Civic Center.
