Paints Win 13-5 over Miners in Beckley

BECKLEY, W.Va. - For the second-straight night, the Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, used a seven-run inning to pull away for a win over the West Virginia Miners. Wednesday night at Linda K Epling Stadium, the Paints defeated the Miners 13-5.

Chillicothe (28-15) scored first, Justin McIntyre singled with one out, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Prospect League RBI leader Cole Andrews.

West Virginia (14-29) plated three runs in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of three walks and an error to go with two hits, taking the lead 3-1, but it didn't last long.

The Paints tied the game int he top of the third. Charlie Patrick and Cody Orr walked to start the inning. An error moved the runners to second and third and a passed ball brought home Patrick. Orr scored on a single by Trey Smith, tying the game 3-3.

Chillicothe scored seven times in the top of the fourth. Ethan Hajdukovic walked to lead off the inning and, after a 17-minute rail delay, Parker Murdie was hit by a pitch and Patrick walked, loading the bases with no outs. Orr singled, scoring Hajdukovic. McIntyre picked up an RBI, as he was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded. Andrews followed with his second RBI hit of the game, a single, scoring Patrick. After a pitching change, Smith cleared the bases with a three-run triple, making it 10-3.

The Paints added three more in the fifth, making it 13-3. Orr singled and stole second and McIntyre walked. Gavin Homer singled to left field, where it was misplayed, rolling to the wall and allowing Homer to score on the play, along with Orr and McIntyre, extending the Paints' lead.

West Virginia plated its final run in the bottom of the ninth.

Mitch Milheim (5-1) earned the win for Chillicothe. He allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits, walking three and striking out six.

The Paints return home to VA Memorial Stadium to host West Virginia at 7:05 p.m. on McDonald's Night and Thirsty Thursday, as draft beer is just one dollar. The Paints also host the Miners Friday and Saturday in Chillicothe.
