Paints Use Big Seventh to Rout REX, 19-5
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, used a nine-hit, 14-run seventh inning to defeat the REX on the road Thursday night at Bob Warn Field.
The Paints jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Cole Andrews hit is second home run of the season to leadoff the second. Andrew Bacon reached on an error and scored two batters later when Collin Luty doubled.
A two-run home run by Austin Weiler capped a three-run third that gave the REX a 3-2 lead.
The REX made it 5-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Chillicothe cut the REX lead to one with a pair of runs in the sixth on an RBI double from Andrews and an RBI single from Luty.
In the seventh, the Paints set season highs for hits and runs in an inning with a 14-run, nine-hit barrage that included two run-producing triples by Cody Orr, two run-producing doubles by Trey Smith, and an RBI double and two-run home run from Bacon. The inning put the Paints up 18-5.
Doubles from Charlie Patrick and Orr added the game's final run in the eighth, giving the Paints a 19-5 lead, the eventual final score.
Orr went 3-for-6 with two triples, a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Smith went 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Andrews was 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, four runs scored and two RBIs; he also threw out two would-be base-stealers. Bacon went 2-for-6 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Luty was 3-for-5 with a double, two singles, three RBIs and a run scored.
Chillicothe has won three in a row and is now 5-7 heading into a weekend homestand beginning tomorrow at VA Memorial Stadium. The Paints host West Virginia at 7:05 p.m. and the first 500 fans will receive a free Paints seat cushion, courtesy of Printex Same-Day Printing.
