Chillicothe Paints News Release

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, swept the Champion City Kings in a doubleheader Sunday night at VA Memorial Stadium, winning by scores of 15-1 and 2-1.

In game one, the Paints (22-13) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on base hit by Chris Eisel and a double by Gavin Homer.

After Champion City (18-16) got a home run from Bo Seccombe to cut the Paints' lead to 2-1, Chillicothe restored the two-run lead in the bottom of the second with a leadoff double from Joe Laudont, groundout moved him to third and Parker Murdie's sacrifice fly scored him.

The Paints scored six runs on one hit in the third inning, taking advantage of another RBI hit by Andrews, a wild pitch, five walks and two run-scoring balks, giving them a 9-1 lead.

Chillicothe tacked on four more in the fifth inning. Collin Luty doubled, Laudont walked and Justin McIntyre singled to load the bases with one out. After Murdie struck out, Charlie Patrick singled in one run, another scored on a third Champion City balk, then Eisel followed with a two-run double, making it 13-1.

With one on and one out in the sixth, Laudont launched his first home run of the season, capping the scoring at 15-1.

Lost in all the runs was a strong outing by Paints starter Jack Raines. He earned the win after allowing just one run on nine hits, walking none and striking out six. Jay Ward scattered two hits over the final inning, striking out two to finish the game.

Game two was more of a pitcher's duel. Champion City's Jared Hatch pitched well enough to win, but came out as the tough-luck loser after throwing the complete-game, allowing two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out four. It was the first loss of the season for Hatch.

The Paints scored first again, Laudont doubled with out and scored on a two-out double by Andrews.

Champion City tied the game in the second inning, but the Paints scored the winning run in the bottom of the third. Homer was hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored on a single by Andrews, finishing the scoring at 2-1.

Cody Orr started for the Paints, leaving after allowing a run on six hits, walking one and striking out two over 2 1/3 innings. Austin Calopietro earned the win, he didn't allow a run over 2 2/3 innings, walking one and striking out five. Nate Haugh earned his Prospect League leading eighth save of the season. Haugh threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

The Paints have Monday off, they are home Monday and Tuesday against West Virginia at VA Memorial Stadium.
