Paints Sign NJCAA Region III POY Tanner Cooper

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, added pitcher Tanner Cooper to their roster for the upcoming season, which begins May 30.

A 6-foot-3, 210-pound, right-hander, Cooper was recently named NJCAA Region III Player of the Year for his outstanding season at Finger Lakes Community College this spring. On the mound, Cooper went 8-4 with a 1.62 ERA. He made 12 appearances, 10 of them starts, threw eight complete games, allowed 13 earned runs, walked 19 and struck out 136 over 72 1/3 innings. Also an infielder, Cooper hit .411 with 16 doubles, nine triples, eight home runs and 71 RBIs. He also scored 57 runs for the Lakers.

Before attending FLCC this spring, Cooper spent one season at Stony Brook University. He has committed to play at Penn State next school year.

A native of Farmington, NY, Cooper graduated from Canandaigua Academy, where he held an ERA of 0.43 as a senior. He was twice named Section V MVP, was named All-Greater Rochester Baseball, named All-County four times, Third-Team All-State in 2016 and First-Team All-State in 2017. He also played football and was named All-County.

The 2019 Chillicothe Paints season begins Thursday, May 30, at VA Memorial Stadium against the Champion City Kings at 7:05 p.m. The Chillicothe Gazette presents FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA by 94 Country and draft beer will be just $1 for Thirsty Thursday. The Paints have made the playoffs seven times in the 10 seasons since joining the Prospect League as a charter member in 2009. The Paints regularly lead the Prospect League in attendance with an average of nearly 2,000 fans per game and are one of the most highly-attended collegiate wood-bat summer teams in the country.
