Paints Sign Infielder Benji Brokemond
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, have signed Miami University infielder Benji Brokemond for the upcoming 2020 season.
The 6-foot, 180-pound freshman is no stranger to playing summer collegiate baseball, as he was a member of the Dubois County Bombers in the Ohio Valley League last summer. Brokemond played in 32 games for the Bombers, hitting .321 with 34 hits, seven doubles, two triples, 32 runs scored and 17 RBIs. He stole 14 bases on 16 attempts and held a .419 on-base percentage.
A native of South Holland, Ill., Brokemond played varsity baseball as a freshman at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School before electing to not play school ball the next two seasons. Instead, Brokemond played in the Hitters Spring League in Wisconsin. Following his junior year, his family moved and Brokemond transferred to Brother Rice and joined the school's baseball team, where he excelled. Brokemond hit .517 with three home runs, drove in 20 and stole 10 bases en route to being named first-team All-Conference.
Prior to playing in high school, Brokemond played for the White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) program and was invited to participate in the MLB/USA Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline in 2017.
Brokemond and the Paints open the 2020 season at home at VA Memorial Stadium Thursday, May 28, against the Champion City Kings at 7:05 p.m. In addition to $1 draft beer for "Thirsty Thursday", there will be a postgame FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA by 94 Country. Information regarding tickets, group outings, sponsorship opportunities and more is available by calling (740) 773-TEAM or by visiting the Paints Office and Gift Shop at 11 East 2nd Street in downtown Chillicothe.
