Paints Sign Catcher Joe Laudont

ILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, added to their roster with the signing of catcher Joe Laudont for the upcoming season, which begins Thursday, May 30.

Laudont, who just finished his junior year at Grand Valley State University, led the Lakers with a .358 batting average. He started 33 games and appeared in 37, tied for the team lead with three home runs and 20 RBIs, ranked second in doubles with eight, tied for third on the team with 38 hits, and tied for fourth with 25 runs scored. Laudont was also named Second Team All-GLIAC following the season.

Before transferring to GVSU, Laudont spent two seasons at Elgin Community College, where he helped his team win a conference championship in 2018 and earned Second-Team All-Conference and All-Area honors.

A native of Elburn, Ill., Laudont was a three-time All-Conference and All-Area honoree at Kaneland High School.

Laudont joins infielder Parker Murdie as the second player from Grand Valley State University to sign to play for the Paints this summer. Prospect League rules and NCAA regulations allow up to four players from the same school to play on a summer team.

The 2019 Chillicothe Paints season begins Thursday, May 30, at VA Memorial Stadium against the Champion City Kings at 7:05 p.m. The Chillicothe Gazette presents FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA by 94 Country and draft beer will be just $1 for Thirsty Thursday. The Paints have made the playoffs seven times in the 10 seasons since joining the Prospect League as a charter member in 2009. The Paints regularly lead the Prospect League in attendance with an average of nearly 2,000 fans per game and are one of the most highly-attended collegiate wood-bat summer teams in the country.
