CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints (3-7), presented by Adena Health System, couldn't find an answer for West Virginia (7-4) pitchers in a 5-0 loss Tuesday at VA Memorial Stadium.
West Virginia scored the only run they needed in the top of the first. Ryan Perkins hit a one-out infield-single, moved to second on an error and scored an on an RBI single by Paul Trick.
The Miners made if 4-0 with three unearned runs in the third after back-to-back errors on balls hit to the right side. West Virginia capped the scoring with their only earned run of the game when Austin Norman doubled to lead off the ninth and scored two batters later on a Tanner Levine RBI signle.
Jack Thompson had two of the three Chillicothe hits, an infield single in the first and a sharply-hit single in the third. Brad Boss had the other Paints hit, a single in the second.
West Virginia starter Jake Belinda (2-0) got the win. He pitched six innings, allowed no runs on three hits and walked two.
Chillicothe starter Brendan Burns (0-1) took the loss, he allowed four unearned runs on seven hits and struck out five.
The Paints continue their homestand Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the DuPage Drones. Lucky fans will win a gas card from Valero for Winning Wednesday!
