Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - It took 13 innings, but Jack Thomspon's two-out, two-RBI single gave the Chillicothe Paints (11-10), presented by Adena Health System, a 6-5 win over the visiting Kokomo Jackrabbits (10-12) Sunday night at VA Memorial Stadium.
The Paints scored first when Dylan Shockley reached on an error by Kokomo's second baseman and scored on a Thompson RBI single two batters later.
Kokomo tied the game at one in the fourth. Cole Nieto tripled with one out and scored on a Michael Abate sacrifice fly to center field.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dylan Jones led off with a single, moved to second on a Korbin Williams groundout, advanced to third on a Tanner Allison single, and scored on a Nate Grys RBI single. The Paints led 2-1 after four innings.
Chillicothe made it 3-1 in the fifth. Brad Boss singled with one out. After moving to second on a wild pitch, Boss scored on a Jamie Lackner RBI single.
Kokomo scored twice in the eighth. Ryan Hutchinson, Nieto, and Abate each singled to load the bases with one out. J.R. Reimer then singed to bring home Hutchinson and Nieto to give the Jackrabbits their first lead of the game at 4-3 going to the bottom of the eighth.
Jones singled with one out in the bottom of the eighth for the Paints, then Williams walked to put runners at first and second. Michael Blatchford was called on to pinch run for Jones at second. Tanner Allison then singled to score Blatchford, who beat the tag at the plate, to tie the game at four after eight innings. Kokomo manager Matt Howard argued the play and was ejected. It stayed 4-4 until the 13th.
The Jackrabbits took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 13th without the benefit of a hit. With one out, Griffin Harms walked, stole second base, went to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the 13th, Grys reached first on a fielder's choice with two outs. Jesse Forestell and Nick Ryan then walked to load the bases. On an 0-1 pitch, Thompson singled up the middle, scoring Grys and Forestell, giving the Paints a walk-off, extra-innings win. It was the first extra-innings game for either team.
Brady Ward (1-0), the seventh pitcher in the game for the Paints, was credited with his first win of the season. He pitched the 13th, allowed one run on no hits, two walks, and a wild pitch.
Matthew Ullrich (0-1) took the loss for Kokomo. He tossed the final two innings and allowed two unearned runs on one hit, walked two, and struck out one.
Each team used four bench players. In addition, Chillicothe used seven pitchers, while Kokomo used five.
