CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, opened up their three-game homestand at VA Memorial Stadium with a 9-5 win over the Champion City Kings Thursday night.

Champion City (22-25) starting pitcher Michael Byrne walked the first four batters, giving the Paints (31-17) the early lead. Sacrifice flies by Trey Smith and Collin Luty plated two more runs. Justin McIntyre walked and Ethan Hajdukovic doubled, the only hit in the first inning, scoring two more runs, making the score 5-0 Chillicothe after an inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, Gavin Homer sent a ball over the trees in left field for his 12th home run of the season, giving the Paints a 6-0 lead.

The Kings were able to score a run-each in the third, fourth and fifth innings, cutting the Paints' lead to 6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, Homer hit a ground ball up the middle that deflected off the side of the mound to the area between shortstop and third for an infield hit. An Andrews single moved Homer to third base and a groundout by Trey Smith brought him home, making it 7-3 Chillicothe.

Homer scored again in the bottom of the eighth inning after a leadoff walk, an Andrews double and a groundout to first by Luty. Andrews stole home when the Kings' catcher threw to second trying to catch McIntyre stealing, putting the Paints up 9-3.

Champion City scored two in the bottom of the ninth, but the Paints earned the 9-5 win. Chillicothe is now 20-6 at home this season.

Cody Orr hit a triple in the fifth inning, hit 10th of the season to extend his Prospect League single-season record.

Paints reliever Jay Ward (1-0) earned his first decision of the season, getting the win after 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Ward allowed just one baserunner, a walk to the first batter he faced.

Chillicothe hosts Champion City again Friday at VA Memorial Stadium of Cool Treats Night by Dairy Queen. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
