Chillicothe Paints News Release
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, lost a road game to the Terre Haute REX Friday night after Reed Hjelle hit a three-run walkoff home run.
The game started with the Paints jumping out to a quick four-nothing lead on five hits in the top of the first that included a Trey Smith two-run home run to left field.
The Paints then led 5-1 heading into the stretch. The REX got a two-run home run and scored three times in the innings, taking advantage of a Chillicothe error, to cut the Paints lead to 5-4.
Cody Orr and Andrew Bacon both walked to leadoff the ninth for the Paints. After both runners advanced on a groundout, the REX intentionally walked Smith to load the bases with one out. Gavin Homer then drove home Orr with a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Paints a 6-4 lead entering the bottom of the ninth.
An error by the Paints' first baseman allowed the leadoff man to reach base. After a strikeout, a single put runner at first and second with one out for Hjelle, who took a 1-2 pitch opposite field for a three-run walkoff home run.
Taylor Perrett started for the Paints and earned a no decision. He allowed just one run on five hits and struck out two over five innings.
The Paints play the DuPage Pistol Shrimp in Lisle, Ill., Saturday at 8:05 p.m. Eastern.
