Paints Drop REX 10-1 Sunday Night

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, had no trouble with the REX in a 10-1 win Sunday night at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute.

Chillicothe (30-17) got off to a quick start, as Cody Orr hit a triple on the game's first pitch. Chris Eisel brought him home with a sacrifice fly, giving the Paints a 1-0 lead.

The REX (25-21) tied the game in the bottom of the second. Austin Weiler doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mason Speirs.

In the next half-inning, the Paints took the lead for good. Ethan Hajdukovic doubled to start the inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Parker Murdie. Orr singled, scoring Hajdukovic, giving the Paints a 2-1 lead.

The Paints made it 4-1 in the fifth. Hajdukovic led off with a walk and Murdie reached on a bunt single. Orr set a Prospect League single-season record with his ninth triple of the summer, his second of the game, driving in two and giving the Paints a three-run lead.

Trey Smith reached on an error with one out in the eighth inning. He scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly from Hajdukovic, making it 5-1.

Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with no outs for the Paints in the top of the ninth. Cole Andrews drove home two with a single, adding to his Prospect League leading RBI total (48) and extending Chillicothe's lead to 7-1. Smith singled home another, then a wild pitch and an error brought home two more runs, finishing the scoring with the Paints up 10-1.

Cal McAninch made his first start of the season, earning a no decision. He allowed one run on two hits and struck out three over three innings. Austin Calipietro (5-1) earned the win in relief. The right-hander threw four scoreless innings, allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three. Calopietro leads the league in strikeouts with 56. Jay Ward and Nate Haugh threw the final two innings for the Paints.

Orr, Andrews, Gavin Homer, Zach Kendall and Nate Haugh will participate in the 2019 Prospect League All-Star Game Tuesday in Normal, Ill., and Andrews will participate in Monday night's Home Run Derby (Orr will pitch to him). The Paints return home for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Champion City Kings Thursday night at VA Memorial Stadium.
