Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Catcher Jesse Forestell went three-for-four, scored two runs, and drove in five Saturday night to help the Chillicothe Paints (7-12, 21-7), presented by Adena Health System, come back from down 10-4 to beat the West Virginia Miners (11-7, 28-19) at VA Memorial Stadium.
West Virginia scored first when Keanan Locke hit a two-run triple that scored Austin Norman and Taylor Hillson in the top of the second.
Chillicothe asnwered back with four runs in the bottom of the second. Dalton Bollinger doubled to start the inning, then Jack Thompson singled and advanced to second on a throw to third. Dylan Jones then doubled to score Bollinger and Thompson to tie the game at 2-2. With one out, Forestell singled to drive home Jones and advanced to second on the throw home. Forestell then scored on a Stewart Nelson RBI single to make it 4-2 Paints after two innings.
In the top of the third, the first six batters for the Miners reached base and scored. In the inning, the Miners sent 11 batters to the plate, took advantage of a pair of walks, got six hits, and finished the inning with an 8-4 lead.
The Miners took advantage of a Chillicothe error in the top of the fourth, when two unearned runs crossed the plate to make it 10-4.
Perley Provost then took the mound for the Paints and shut the Miners down. He threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed just one baserunner, and struck out four to give the Paints a chance to stage a comeback.
After the first batter was retired in the bottom of the fifth, Nelson, Michael Blatchford and Jamie Lackner walked to load the bases. Eli Boggess hit a ground ball to second that allowed Nelson to score and cut the West Virginia lead to 10-5 after five innings.
With two on and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Forestell hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right-center, to make it a two-run ballgame at 10-8.
Boggess led off the top of the seventh with a double, but was thrown out at the plate from centerfield while trying to score from second on a Bollinger single, Bollinger took second base on the throw home. A wild pitch moved Bollinger to third. Korbin Williams doubled with two outs to score Bollinger and make it a 10-9 game after seven innings. It was Williams' first RBI of the season.
Bollinger led off for Chillicothe in the top of the ninth and smashed a ball just inside third base. There was some confusion about the ball being fair or foul, causing Bollinger to hesitate running to first, where he stopped. It was then ruled that someone in the West Virginia bullpen interfered with the ball and Bollinger was awarded second base, where Jake Horew took over the baserunning duties as a pinch runner. Brad Boss, who entered the game earlier for Thompson, sacrificed Horew to third. Jones was walked, putting runners on the corners with one out. Nick Ryan was called on to pinch run at first for Jones. Williams then earned his second RBI of the night with a single that scored Horew and tied the game at 10. Forestell followed with his fifth RBI of the night on a walk-off single to right-center that scored Ryan from second base.
Brady Ward (3-1) collected the win for Chillicothe after striking out the only batter he faced in the top of the ninth with two on and two out.
Calvin Coker (3-2) took the loss for West Virginia. He threw 1 1/3 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, walked one and struck one out.
The Paints are now 8-2 against West Virginia this season. They will play again Sunday at 6:05 p.m. at VA Memorial Stadium on "Superheroes Night"; fans are encouraged to dress up for the game. It is also Kids Club Day, sponsored by Subway. All Paints Kids Club Members receive free admission. Gates open at 5:05 p.m.
