CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, collected 16 hits in a 15-3 win over the West Virginia Miners Saturday night at VA Memorial Stadium.
The Paints (29-17) didn't waste much time getting on the scoreboard. Cody Orr led off the bottom of the first with a single, advancing to second on a groundout, to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a single by Chris Eisel. Trey Smith singled later in the inning, scoring Eisel and a sacrifice fly from Parker Murdie extended the Paints' lead to 3-0. Smith stole home, making it 4-0 Paints after one inning.
West Virginia (16-30) got a two-out solo home run from Clayton Mehlbauer in the top of the third, cutting into the Paints lead at 4-1, but Chillicothe answered in the bottom of the inning.
Cole Andrews led off with a double to left. Smith singled and Tyler Wagner walked, loading the bases with no outs. After a pitching change, Murdie worked an RBI walk, Ethan Hajdukovic singled home Smith and Wagner, Dylan Carpenter singled home Murdie, and Justin McIntyre hit a two-run triple to cap off a six-run, five-hit inning, making it 10-1 Paints.
Chillicothe made it 13-1 with three more in the sixth. Andrews hit a solo home run to start the inning. Wager singed to right with one out and Murdie beat out an infield hit. With two down, Carpenter singled, scoring Wager and Murdie, extending the Paints' lead to 12.
McIntyre was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the seventh, he scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly from Charlie Patrick.
West Virginia got a run in the top of the eighth, but the Paints answered in the bottom of the inning when Carpenter drove in his fourth run of the game with a single, scoring Hajdukovic, making it 15-2.
The Miners plated one more in the ninth, finishing the scoring at 15-3 in favor of the home team.
Chillicothe starter Jack Raines was solid in his eighth start of the year. The left-hander threw five innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out four.
The Paints play the REX in Terre Haute, Ind., Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The Prospect League All-Star Break is Monday-Wednesday. Chillicothe returns home Thursday to play Champion City at 7:05 p.m.
