
Paints Beat Catfish 9-4, Force Game 3

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, erased a 2-0 deficit to beat the Cape Catfish 9-4 in game two of the Prospect League Championship Series Monday night at Capaha Field. The win evens the series and forces a decisive game three Tuesday night at 7:35 p.m.
After an error, Andrew Keck hit a two-run home run over the left-field fence, giving the Catfish an early 2-0 lead.
Chillicothe finally broke through in the fifth. Justin McIntyre led the inning off with a double and Parker Murdie walked. Both advanced to on a wild pitch. Colin Shepherd brought home a run on a groundout, then Cody Orr singled home Murdie and Shepherd scored as the ball was misplayed in centerfield, sending Orr to second as well. Orr scored, giving the Paints a 3-2 lead, on an error by the Cape shortstop.
Trey Smith started the sixth with a single and went to second on a wild pitch. With one out, Ethan Hajdukovic and Murdie walked to load the bases. Shepherd singled, scoring Smith and Hajdukovic and giving Shepherd three RBIs on the night. With runners at second and third and one out with the infield in for Cape, Orr grounded a ball to the shortstop, who threw home but was unable to get the runner, extending the lead to 6-2.
With two on and two out in the top of the eighth, Gavin Homer hit a three-run home run over the left-field wall, making it 9-2 Paints.
Cape scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, but Chillicothe took the win 9-4.
Chillicothe starter Jack Raines allowed just two runs, one earned, on three hits, striking out five over 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. Jack Huisman, Mitch Milheim and Cal McAninch finished the final 2 1/3 innings for the Paints.
Austin Calopietro is expected to get the start Tuesday night in the decisive game three of the Prospect League Championship Series. First pitch at Cape Girardeau's Capaha Field is set for 7:35 p.m. Eastern.
