Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The biggest crowd of the year showed up to the Hangar on Friday night to enjoy an Independence Day Extravaganza. They were rewarded with an electric atmosphere, a dazzling pre-game concert and a spectacular fireworks show after the ballgame. Unfortunately for the JetHawks' fans, the only thing that didn't cooperate on this memorable day was the baseball played on the diamond. The JetHawks fell behind early and never recovered in an 11-4 loss. With the win, the Storm took the three-game series from Lancaster and stayed a game back of High Desert in the Second Half California League standings.
The JetHawks did give the 6,008 fans on hand a reason to believe this would be a magical day in the first inning. After Jon Gaston walked with two outs, T.J. Steele tripled to right field and the JetHawks were out in front 1-0. Newest JetHawk Casey Hudspeth, just off a plane from Corpus Christi, started the ballgame and held the Storm scoreless in the opening frame.
The Storm did tie the game in the second, when Andy Parrino roped a two-out single to score Matt Clark, who had singled to start the game. They added three more in the third, and never relinquished the lead. Five of the first six batters got hits in the third; Clark drove in Brad Chalk for to give Lake Elsinore the lead, Keoni Ruth doubled in Sawyer Carroll, and Parrino drove in his second run of the game with a bases loaded walk.
The big inning for the Storm was the sixth, when they erupted for five runs. Chalk again got on base to begin the frame; after Beamer Weems flew out to left field, Shane Wolf was summoned from the bullpen to end Hudspeth's night. But Wolf walked the first two batters he faced, then threw a wild pitch to the backstop to score Chalk. He intentionally walked Felix Carrasco (who was shown that respect four times in the series) and was taken out of the game in favor of Jordan Powell. But Powell gave up a pair of two-out, two-run doubles to Angel Mercado and Parrino. Clark ended the game 4 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Storm reliever Eric Gonzales was credited with the win. He came into the ball game in the fourth, and yielded three earned runs in four innings on four hits while striking out two.
The JetHawks hit the road for a six-game trip to Inland Empire and Rancho Cucamonga. They will help the 66ers celebrate the 4th of July tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. The radio broadcast can be heard on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com beginning at 6:50 PM.
