Lafayette, LA--The road to the NIFL Championship will go through the Pacific Conference for the first time in league history. After calculating the potential playoff scenarios, the host of the 2004 NIFL Championship Game will be the winner of the Billings / Sioux Falls contest taking place on Sunday afternoon.
After going through all scenarios, Sioux Falls, Billings and Ohio Valley have all entered the playoffs with the same 11-3 record. When teams are tied, NIFL Tiebreakers come into play as follows:
1. Head-to-head record (best won-loss-tied percentage in games played among the clubs).
2. Best won-loss-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-loss-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
5. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
6. Best net points in conference games.
7. Best net points in all games.
8. A coin toss.
After going through each tiebreaker, it comes to a point of decision at Number 4, best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. Sioux Falls ranks 3 in offense and 1 in defense for a combined 4. Billings ranks 4 in offense and 2 in defense for a combined 6, and Ohio Valley ranks 6 in offense and 1 in defense for a combined 7. Based on these numbers, the winner of the Billings / Sioux Falls game will host the winner of the Lexington / Ohio Valley game.
For the first time in league history, the Pacific Conference will host the NIFL Championship as teams compete for the Johnson Memorial Trophy, named after former NIFL Operations Director Tina Johnson. The Championship game will take place in either Billings or Sioux Falls on Saturday, August 7th.
