COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced the release of the 2010 championship schedule, its 108th season. The PCL will look to again break the 7-million attendance mark; in 2009, the League's sixteen clubs recorded a total of 7,133,386 patrons through the gates, the fifth consecutive season the league has drawn over 7 million fans.
Opening Day of the 144-game season will be on Thursday, April 8th, and will feature intra-conference matchups throughout the League. The defending PCL Champion Memphis Redbirds will begin their '10 season on the road in Omaha, facing the Royals in the final PCL Opening Day event at historic Rosenblatt Stadium; Omaha is slated to begin play at their new ballpark in 2011. Tacoma will open the season hosting Colorado Springs in a rematch of the two teams that squared off on the last day of the 2009 season to determine the winner of the Pacific-Northern Division, with the Rainiers claiming the victory and subsequent playoff berth. Other 2009 playoff participants include the Albuquerque Isotopes visiting the RedHawks in Oklahoma City, and the PCL Championship runner-up Sacramento River Cats traveling to Portland to face the Beavers.
During the 2010 campaign, American and Pacific Conference teams will compete against each other in two sixteen-game segments of the schedule, May 11-27 and August 4-20. The 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game will be hosted by the International League on July 14th at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA, home of the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
The PCL regular season will conclude on Monday, September 6th, and following an off-day, the 2010 playoffs will begin with two best-of-five conference championship series, followed by the best-of-five League Championship series beginning on September 15th. The winner of the PCL Championship series will again move on to Oklahoma City for the Triple-A National Championship Game, competing against the champion of the International League on September 21st at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
