The Manchester Millrats are pleased to announce the return of P.J Young to the team.
Young, a 6'7 forward, was an ABA All Star in his first season with the Millrats. In 2007-2008, he averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds per game during second half of the season. He began last season in the Premier Basketball League with Manchester before being traded to Quebec, where he averaged 11.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Young teamed with David Cooper (Millrats forward and co-owner) at Manchester Central High School, where they won back to back New Hampshire State championships in 2000 and 2001.
After high school, Young took his talents to Southern New Hampshire University, where he starred for four years on what would become the eventual home of the Millrats.
"P.J. has been one of the best defenders on the Millrats over the years, we are happy to have him on the team," explained Millrats Head Coach Heath Teixiera, "we need to improve defensively and rebounding the ball, and P.J. does both".
Manchester also announces the release of Al Stewart, Alexus Foyle, and Jose Guitian.
"We are grateful for what Al Stewart has done for our franchise over the past few seasons, and wish him nothing but the best," stated Millrats GM Ian McCarthy.
Foyle was released to pursue an overseas opportunity in Taiwan, while Guitian is headed to a contract in the BSN league in Puerto Rico. Luke Bonner is currently on a tryout with the Austin Toros of the NBA Developmental League.
One of the main objectives of the Manchester Millrats is to help give opportunities to players to be scouted and help them develop opportunities to further their career.
The Millrats hit the road on Saturday January 30th to face the Buffalo Stampede. And then on Tuesday February 2nd, Manchester travels north to Barre, Vermont to play the Vermont Frost Heaves.
