Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, CA (September 5th, 2014) - Orange County Blues FC is set to close out their 2014 season Saturday night, as they face Oklahoma City Energy FC at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM.
The Blues are coming off their first draw of the season last week against the Richmond Kickers. Jason Yeisley took advantage of a poor clearance by the Blues and fired a shot into the back of the net to put Richmond up 1-0 in the 18th minute. However, Orange County responded five minutes later with a long offensive possession that saw a cross from Seung Ju Kim find a diving Andrew Hoxie, who headed in his second goal of the season. Although each team traded chances throughout the rest of the match, the Blues held Richmond to a 1-1 draw.
OKC comes to Irvine on the heels of a loss to Sacramento Republic FC on Thursday night, which eliminated them from USL PRO postseason contention. The only score came from former Blues standout Rodrigo Lopez, who finished a penalty kick given to Sacramento as a result of an Energy hand ball in the box. Republic FC held on for a 1-0 victory.
Orange County currently sits in 13th place in the USL PRO standings, with a 9-17-1 record, giving them 28 points. Allan Russell leads the Blues in the 2014 campaign with eight goals and seven assists. OKC sits just one place ahead of the Blues, in 12th place, with an 8-14-5 record and 29 points. Kyle Greig leads the Energy with eight goals and two assists.
The Energy has the lead in the head-to-head battle between the two clubs, taking a 2-0 victory on April 5th in Irvine, and a 1-0 victory in OKC on August 2nd. The Blues won in OKC on May 10th in dramatic fashion, scoring in the 90th minute to win 1-0.
Saturday's match is Fan Appreciation Night, and the club wants to thank all the fans for their support all season long with great contests, giveaways, and prizes.
