Ohio Machine Storms Back to Beat Rochester Rattlers, 18-13

The Ohio Machine used a 10-3 run to erase an early deficit against the Rochester Rattlers to mark the first three-win season in club history.

Ohio scored seven goals in the third quarter to fuel the comeback before winning, 18-13, Saturday at Selby Stadium.

The Machine set club records for goals in a game with 18 and points in a game with 27. Midfielder Peter Baum and attackman Marcus Holman each tied the club high with five goals apiece.

Machine midfielder Kyle Harrison's 14th goal of the season, and second of the night, brought the team back within one, less than a minute into the second half. After a Rochester goal, attackman Logan Schuss tallied his fourth to keep the Machine within striking distance. Baum tied the game with his third goal of the evening less than two minutes later in a power-play situation.

Holman scored his 12th goal of the season to give the Machine its first lead of the game at 11-10 in the third quarter. He added another moments later to put his team two clear.

Ohio found itself trailing by four goals with halftime approaching, but made it back to within one before Rochester scored with less than two seconds on the clock. Schuss scored his third goal of the second quarter to make it 8-5 in favor of the Rattlers, and then Baum scored back to back goals to help the cause. Jordan MacIntosh tallied just before the half to make it 9-7 for Rochester.

Schuss' three second-quarter goals marked the sixth time a Machine player has tallied a hat trick in one quarter. It was the third time that has happened in a second quarter for Ohio.

Once the score made it back to 12-11 in favor of the Machine, Baum added his fourth and Holman finished his hat trick to give Ohio a 14-11 advantage going into the final quarter.

The Machine's seven third-quarter goals tied a team record for a quarter, and marked the most it has ever scored in a third quarter.

One goal from Baum followed by two goals from Holman and a tally from face-off man Eric O'Brien gave the Machine an 18-12 lead and the team never looked back. Ohio set club records for team goals and points in a game in the process.

After Baum and Holman's five goals each, Schuss finished with four and Harrison had two goals. Attackman Steele Stanwick tallied six assists - which is a club record - and midfielder Dominique Alexander added two assists. O'Brien led the team with five groundballs.

Goalie Brian Phipps tallied 16 saves on 29 shots on goal to earn his second win of the season. O'Brien finished 13-for-32 on face offs and midfielder Jake Bernhardt went one-for-two at the midfield X.

The Machine finished two-for-three in power-play situations while Rochester went two-for-four. Each team picked up 28 groundballs in the game.

Jordan Wolf led the Rochester attack with four goals and one assist.

The Machine will travel to Boston Saturday, June 21, to take on the Cannons for the second time in three weeks. Face-off is set for 8 p.m. EST and the game will be broadcast live on the MLL Network. Ohio's next home game will be July 4 when the Machine takes on the Chesapeake Bayhawks. That game will face-off at 4 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.
