Ohio Machine News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Machine hosted the second annual Ohio Machine Fall Classic Sunday afternoon at Fortress Obetz. The event featured a quintuple-header, highlighted by the matchup between The Ohio State University and the Ohio Machine. Capital University, Denison University and Wheeling Jesuit University, also joined the event with each university playing in two games, except for Denison, which played in three games. In addition to the games, the Machine and Ohio State hosted a lacrosse skills clinic for over 150 children in the 8th grade and under.
"I think every team hopefully got what they wanted out of today's games," Machine head coach Bear Davis said. "Everybody is in a different place with their program- whether they have young guys who will be starting for them or guys who are trying to get integrated with their system. It was definitely interesting to watch."
Take a look at Sunday's matchups:
Capital University vs. Wheeling Jesuit University
Leading off the day was a spirited Capital University team jumping out to a 12-9 victory over Wheeling Jesuit University. Attackmen Zack Heflin, CJ Hughes and Ryan Rampi each netted two goals for the Crusaders in the victory.
Denison University vs. Wheeling Jesuit University
In a back and forth contest, Denison University played Wheeling Jesuit University in the second matchup of the day, coming out victorious 5-2. This was the first of three wins for Denison University on the day.
Ohio Machine vs. The Ohio State University
The Sheens put in 16 goals in the third game of the day, in a 16-11 victory over the Buckeyes. For Ohio State, midfielder Jackson Smith scored three goals. Attackman Brendan Bomberry led the way for the Machine with four goals, and attackman Bryce Wasserman added a goal and two assists.
"It was pretty incredible to see the guys that we just signed or picked up at the end of last year, like Brendan Bomberry, play with some of the vets, and learn from those guys for sure," Davis said. "I thought everybody did their job. We gave everybody fairly specific roles and they went with it."
The Ohio State University vs. Denison University
Denison defeated Ohio State 5-2 in the fourth matchup of the day. Senior Brooks Davy and sophomore Devin Irvin each scored a pair of goals for the Big Red.
Denison University vs. Capital University
Denison University took on Captial University in the final matchup of the day, coming out victorious 5-3. Freshmen Michael Bomes, Camden Bowdy and Alexander Feldman all scored for the Big Red in the win.
Next up, the Machine will host the fifth annual Ohio Machine Lacrosse Convention, in an effort to continue growing the game of lacrosse. The fifth annual one-day gathering is the premier lacrosse educational event in the Midwest that brings coaches, referees and athletes from the youth, high school, club and collegiate levels together to facilitate the growth of the game in the region. This year's event will take place on December 1, 2018 at the Embassy Suites in Dublin, Ohio.
