COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 2017 Major League Lacrosse champion, Ohio Machine and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department (CRPD) have teamed up to make the game of lacrosse accessible to everyone in central Ohio.

The Ohio Machine Foundation's first-of-its-kind grant allows CRPD to hire a seasonal employee to teach youth the game in community centers throughout the city.

This announcement comes after last summer's Urban Lacrosse initiative- a collaborative effort between US Lacrosse, Greater Columbus Sports Commission, CRPD and the Ohio Machine to diversify the sport of lacrosse in the city of Columbus. The culmination of this initiative was a youth clinic attended by 80 CRPD participants who received one-on-one training from Ohio Machine players and coaches, as well as US Lacrosse staff and community volunteers. The Urban Lacrosse Initiative won a first place award in the sports programs category during the 2017 Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA) Conference. With the help of Columbus Recreation and Parks, the game of lacrosse will become more widespread than ever.

Since the inception of the Ohio Machine Lacrosse Foundation, an anonymous community member has made a generous donation to the foundation. Through this donation and many others, the Ohio Machine has the opportunity to partner with CRPD and bring youth lacrosse camps to central Ohio.

"The Ohio Machine is excited to partner with Columbus Recreation and Parks," Ohio Machine President Ryan Chenault said. "In thanks to our generous donors, we are able to accomplish the mission of the Ohio Machine Lacrosse Foundation by giving back to the community and growing the game of lacrosse."

"This partnership is going to be such a great opportunity for our youth to be exposed to the game of lacrosse," Ohio Machine Head Coach Bear Davis said. "We're excited for the opportunity to continue growing lacrosse in Ohio."

Columbus Recreation and Parks will hire an employee whose focus will be to plan and implement free youth lacrosse camps to CRPD participants throughout the summer. Camps will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
