Ohio Machine Announces 2012 Inaugural Season Schedule

COLUMBUS, Ohio (December 12, 2011) - The Ohio Machine (Machine), which begins its inaugural season in Major League Lacrosse (MLL), announced today its 2012 season schedule with its inaugural season home opener at historic Selby Stadium on Saturday, May 19, against the Rochester Rattlers at 8 p.m.

The Machine opens up its 2012 season on the road against the Chesapeake Bayhawks in Annapolis, Maryland, on May 5, followed by a game against fellow newcomers the Hounds in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 12.

After playing its first two weeks on the road, the Machine will come home for its first ever home game on May 19 against the Rattlers, from whom the Machine received its first four players (Anthony Kelly, Greg Bice, Brett Garber and Stefan Schroder) in a September trade.

The team will then travel to Long Island to play the Lizards on Friday, June 1, before returning home to begin a three-game home stand in June against Denver, Long Island and Charlotte (June 9, 16 and 23 respectively).

The Machine starts the second half of its season by playing the Denver Outlaws in their famous Fourth of July game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium on Wednesday, July 4. Last season, the Outlaws set a single-game attendance record for professional lacrosse with 27,184 fans in what has become an annual MLL tradition.

In its only back-to-back series of the season, the Machine first heads across the border to play the Nationals on July 13 in Hamilton, Ontario, and then hosts the Nationals in Ohio the next night on July 14. At the end of July, the team plays the Bayhawks at home followed by a rematch against Rochester on the road.

To close out its 2012 inaugural season, the Machine plays the reigning 2011 Champs Boston Cannons in Boston on August 4 and then in Ohio on August 11 to close out the regular season.

The MLL season will conclude with three post-season games during the MLL Championship Weekend . Two semi-final games will take place on Saturday, August 25, and the MLL Championship game will take place on Sunday, August 26.

The Machine recently acquired 10 new players in the MLL Expansion Draft last Wednesday. The Machine drafted attackman Connor Martin with its first pick (3rd overall) and Columbus natives Brett Hughes and Max Schmidt, as well as attackman Jim Connolly, midfielders Dan Groot, Jordan Levine, Matt Casey and Scott Kocis, defenseman Kevin Ridgway and goalkeeper Brian Phipps.

The Machine will have more opportunities to acquire players during the MLL Supplemental Draft on December 14 and the MLL Collegiate Draft on January 13.
