MLR Rugby New York Ironworkers

Official Statement on 2024

December 8, 2023 - Major League Rugby (MLR)
Rugby New York Ironworkers News Release

New York City is well-known for its passion, grit, and energy, and that sentiment rings true when talking about the committed fans of the Rugby New York Ironworkers.

We're so grateful for your enthusiasm, love, and support throughout our time with our organization. That's what makes the news we're sharing so difficult, as our team will cease operations and not compete in Major League Rugby in 2024.

While we're devastated that we won't be moving forward in league play, we are immensely proud of what our organization has accomplished in just a short period of time. That includes capturing the MLR Championship Shield in 2022, as well as our work with NY Foundry and the Junior Foundry to bring the game to a new generation of fans.

It was our quest to 'Change the Skyline' in New York by growing the game of rugby through the excitement and sportsmanship on the pitch. On behalf of the Rugby New York Ironworkers, words simply won't do justice when it comes to sharing our appreciation with all of our supporters. You are all #BuiltforNewYork.

While this chapter may be coming to an end, no stone was left unturned to continue the journey. Thank you all for everything. The passion, the memories, and the unwavering spirit of the Ironworkers will forever echo in the halls of New York rugby history.
