Offense Stuck in Rut as Barons Fall to Biscuits

Birmingham, AL - The Barons offense continued to spin it's wheels during a recent offensive funk as the Montgomery Biscuits picked up a 6-3 win in front of 8,500 fans at Regions Field.
The Biscuits jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Mikie Mahtook singled in a run in the first and doubled in another in the third against starter Scott Snodgress (5-2, 4.13).
The Barons offense was held hitless over the first 4.2 innings of the game and scoreless until the 8th when they mounted their first real rally against Biscuits pitching on the day. Trayce Thompson put the Barons on the board with an RBI single and it looked as if the Barons might steal a victory when they loaded the bases with one out. However, dazzling defensive plays by third baseman Riccio Torrez on leaping catch of a line drive off the bat of Michael Earley and a leaping catch against the left field wall by Todd Glaesmann on a deep drive by Mike Blanke prevented the Barons from taking the lead.
Montgomery tacked on three crucial insurance runs in the ninth, rendering the Barons two-run night moot as the Biscuits improved to 20-19 on the season. Biscuits starter Enny Romery (2-1, 4.58) stifled the Barons over 6.2 IP, allowing just two hits and striking out two. The loss went to Snodgress who allowed three runs on five hits and four walks over 5.0 IP.
The 8,500 fans in attendance marked the second-highest crowd of the season for the Barons at Regions Field. It was also the second sellout of the season.
The Barons will look to capture their 4th home series victory in a row at Regions Field tomorrow as RHP Stephen McCray (4-2, 3.16) takes the hill against RHP Victor Mateo (1-4, 8.68). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
