March 26, 2021 - Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release

(Brooklyn, N.Y.) - The National Women's Hockey League today announced that Boston Mayor Kim Janey will be in attendance on Saturday night at Warrior Ice Arena to perform the ceremonial puck drop prior to the Championship Final of the Isobel Cup Playoffs, presented by Discover.

On Wednesday Mayor Janey was sworn-in as the first woman and the first Black mayor in Boston history.

"As our athletes compete to make history by raising the Isobel Cup in Boston, it's only fitting to celebrate female empowerment and resiliency with Mayor Kim Janey, who has broken down her own barriers in this community," said NWHL Commissioner Tyler Tumminia. "We're excited that Mayor Janey's presence will enhance a truly special day for the NWHL."

"In a week where we are blessed to celebrate history in Boston, I'm honored to end it by dropping the ceremonial puck for the Isobel Cup Playoffs," said Mayor Janey. "The players in this league are trailblazers and an inspiration to young women that dream about competing on the biggest stage. It's a pleasure to be able to host these talented athletes in Boston, and I'm excited to be part of this special event."

A proud fourth-generation Roxbury resident, Mayor Janey comes from a long line of educators, entrepreneurs, artists, and advocates. Mayor Janey was raised with values that guide her to this day: the importance of education, the power of community organizing, and the fundamental principles of equity and justice.

The Isobel Cup Playoffs, presented by Discover, begin on Friday, March 26 at 5 p.m. ET in the first semifinal between the Toronto Six and Boston Pride, followed by the Minnesota Whitecaps facing off against the Connecticut Whale at 8 p.m. ET. The winners compete for the Isobel Cup at 7 p.m. EST on March 27. All three championship weekend games will be televised on NBCSN and streamed on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app exclusively in the U.S., and streamed via Twitch in Canada and other international markets.
