Buffalo Beauts 4, Boston Pride 3 (OT)
Megan Bozek's game-winner 1:20 into overtime gave Buffalo its second win of the season and halted Boston's four game win streak.
It also marked Buffalo's first win over Boston in franchise history.
The Beauts broke open the scoring on a shorthanded goal by Hailey Browne just under eight minutes into the game. Boston answered back with two quick goals midway through the period. Jordan Smelker put Boston on the board with help from Casey Pickett and Jillian Dempsey with 9:21 left to play. Forty seconds later, Hilary Knight put the Pride ahead 2-1, with an assist from Marissa Gedman.
With just over six minutes left in the middle frame, the Beauts evened the score when Browne netted her second of the game on a delayed penalty call to Brianna Decker.
Boston took the lead again with just under five minutes gone in the third, as Brianna Decker put a pass from Hilary Knight past Beauts keeper Amanda Makela on the high blocker side. Buffalo tied it up midway through the period as Devon Skeats converted a pass from Browne. With five seconds left on the clock, Amanda Pelkey took a cross checking penalty that carried over into the overtime period, giving Buffalo the four on three advantage in the extra time. Bozek put away the winning goal with assists from Emily Pfalzer and Meghan Duggan.
Connecticut Whale 6, New York Riveters 1
After losing its first game of the season a week ago, the Connecticut Whale got back to its winning ways with a loud 6-1 road win over the New York Riveters.
Shiann Darkangelo scored on the power play in the first period with an assist from her college teammate Kelly Babstock to give the Whale a 1-0 lead. The Whale went into the second period leading 1-0, despite being outshot 9-8. Four minutes into the second period, the two former Quinnipiac Bobcats connected again, this time shorthanded, to put the Whale up 2-0. Just under five minutes later, Darkangelo scored her third of the game, the first hat trick of the season (and in franchise history) for the Whale. Jordan Brickner assisted on the goal.
Early on in the third period, Shannon Doyle took advantage of traffic in front of the Riveters' net, sending home a slap shot to put the Whale up 4-0. Kaleigh Fratkin and Kelli Stack assisted on the goal, and Nana Fujimoto was replaced by Jenny Scrivens in net for the Riveters. Kelly Babstock put the moves on Scrivens after receiving a Hail Mary pass from Alyssa Wohlfeiler on the penalty kill, putting the Whale up 5-0.
At the 7:00 mark, things got a little heated, resulting in the ejection of Micaela Long along with a five minute major penalty for charging. The Riveters took advantage of the longer power play, as Lyudmila Belyakova snuck one by Nicole Stock, but Kelli Stack added an empty netter to seal the win for the Whale, 6-1.
