NWHL Cancels 2020 Isobel Cup Final
May 15, 2020 - Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release
BROOKLYN -ÃÂ TheÃÂ NWHL announced today that the 2020 Isobel Cup Final between the Boston Pride and Minnesota Whitecaps has been canceledÃÂ due to the COVID-19 health crisis.
The game, originally scheduled for March 13, was postponed the previous morning because of the COVID-19ÃÂ outbreak.ÃÂ The decisionÃÂ to cancel the gameÃÂ was reached collaboratively by theÃÂ NWHL, the NWHLPA, and the players, coaches andÃÂ leadershipÃÂ of the Pride and Whitecaps.
"We're very disappointed for these two great teams and the fansÃÂ that we came one game shy of completing our season, but this global health crisis transcends sports," said NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan.ÃÂ "On a personal level, our focusÃÂ remainsÃÂ on looking out for each other and taking care of our families. As a leagueÃÂ and business, everything we've done since the pandemic began, and everything we will continue to do, is centeredÃÂ on being well-positioned for aÃÂ safe return to play.
"Our target opening date forÃÂ the 2020-21 season is six months from now, in mid-November.ÃÂ When the games begin again, we want to be the best we've ever been - for our fans, players, partners, and everyone who believes in the NWHL.ÃÂ My thanks toÃÂ all of you."
Fans who purchased tickets to the game can request a refund or theyÃÂ can apply their payment toward BostonÃÂ Pride 2020-21 Season Tickets. For service, please emailÃÂ jhanway@nwhlhq.com.
