NWHL Announces Series of Postseason Dates

New York, NY - The National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) today announced a series of spring and summer dates to wrap up the inaugural season and lead into 2016-2017. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information.

NWHL Awards: Sunday, March 20

Whittmore Center Arena, Durham, New Hampshire

Held on-site at the NCAA Frozen Four Women's Hockey Championships, the 2016 NWHL Awards will honor players in the following categories:

Regular Season Champions - Awarded the team with the best record during the regular season.

NWHL Foundation Award - Awarded to the player most actively applying the core values of hockey to her community as well as growing and improving hockey culture.

Leading Scorer - Awarded to the player with the most points in the regular season.

NWHL MVP - Awarded to the player considered most valuable to her team, as voted by the NWHL Players Association.

Perseverance Award - Awarded to the player who most exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to her sport.

NWHL Best Defenseman - Awarded to the defenseman who most excels at her position.

NWHL Best Goaltender - Awarded to the goaltender who most excels at her position.

Free Agency: May 1 - July 31

All current NWHL players signed one-year contracts for the inaugural season, which will dissolve at the end of the 2015-2016 season. Free Agency begins May 1 and ends July 31, during which time players must sign contracts with an NWHL team in order to be eligible for the 2016-2017 season.

Prior to the opening of Free Agency, players may attend training camps and negotiate contracts with team general managers. Players who have graduated from the equivalent of a four-year college are eligible to play in the NWHL.

NWHL Junior Draft: Saturday, June 18

The 2016 NWHL Junior Draft will select the best players entering their senior year of collegiate hockey. Each team will receive an equal number of picks, the order of which will be determined by the regular season final standings.
