NWFA to Hold Seminars

October 2, 2003 - National Women's Football Association (NWFA) News Release

Nashville, TN-The National Women's Football Association, the largest full contact football league in the world for women, has announced "Coaching and Officiating Women's Full Contact Football" seminars. The seminars are designed to help the many coaches around the country learn how to coach women's tackle football and to provide accreditation of officials for the upcoming 2004 season. These seminars will be held February 20-21 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Opryland Hotel.

Coaching women's full contact football is a lot different from coaching boy's or men's football and the association has put together a panel of successful coaches to lead the seminars. Some of the coaches who will be teaching the seminars include: NWFA Coach of the Year, Tony Blankenship. Blankenship took the expansion Detroit team and won two National Championships, back to back. Working with Blankenship will be Ezra Cooper, Head Coach of the DC Divas, Mike Thomas, Head Coach of the Pensacola Power and Ken Hall, Head Coach of the Chattanooga Locomotion.

Attendees will learn the subtle differences between coaching men and women and many other useful techniques.

Don Shurtleff will head up the Officiating seminar. Shurtleff has more than 30 years of experience and serves as the NWFA's Director of Officials. All officials working NWFA games in the 2004 season will have to be accredited and this seminar will give attendees that accreditation.

The price to attend each seminar is $100.00 for current NWFA coaches or officials if registered by December 15th. $150.00 after December 15th. The cost to attend for non-NWFA coaches or officials is $150.00 if registered by December 15th. After December 15th the cost is $200.00.

All attendees will receive hand out materials, workbooks and a certificate of completion and accreditation.
