NWFA Appoints Statistician
October 24, 2003 - National Women's Football Association (NWFA) News Release
Nashville, TN-The National Women's Football Association, the largest league in the world for women's full contact football, has announced the appointment of Eric Choiniere as the League Statistician.
Choiniere's background includes primarily computers. However, he has an extensive background in working with stats. He's been involved in football as a player or in other aspects for about 20 years. "It's hard to compare one team to another if no one knows how the players are performing, states Choiniere. "With complete accurate statistics, it gets people who currently follow a league talking more about "my team is this and this and has done this" and back it up with some real numbers. I have followed the NWFA for the last 3 years. I have been involved in different leagues in the past couple of years with some disastrous results. I see the NWFA as a much more stable, professional, organized league compared to other leagues," adds Choiniere.
"One of the biggest issues we have had since starting this new sport is getting complete statistics from our teams. Our teams have all been given a league stat program and now, with Mr. Choiniere on board, we can compile this information more professionally and quickly," states Catherine Masters, CEO NWFA. "You have to have stats to showcase your marquee players and to get the sports writers interested. We have some outstanding athletes playing in our league and now we'll be able to let the world see their impressive numbers," adds Masters.
Stats are also going to play a bigger role in the 2004 season since many of the NWFA games will be televised on the exciting new Football Network. This five year deal with The Football Network will bring our brand of football to football fans everywhere and we want to give them the information they need to follow our teams and players," adds VP Debby Lening.
In addition to compiling overall stats for the NWFA, Choiniere will also design a Fantasy Football league for the NWFA's website. "We're really excited about giving our fans a chance to run their own NWFA fantasy football league. Once we have the details and plan worked out, we'll make an announcement," adds Lening.
The league starts its fourth season in April and is looking forward to increasing the fan base and national exposure for the league and its teams. Last year The World Championship Game was held at the Vanderbilt University stadium in Nashville in front of nearly 6,000 fans. The league website receives over 3 Million hits per month.
