Wareham Gatemen News Release

CARY, NC: - The highly regarded Baseball America has released their 2011 College Top Draft Prospects list and a total of 9 former and current Wareham Gatemen players are featured; including 3 of the top 10 players.

Ranked #5 by Baseball America is All-American George Springer (UCONN) who was tabbed as the highest ranking outfield prospect. Springer played two seasons in Wareham; although his 2010 season was cut short due to an invitation he accepted to play for Team USA last summer. Springer's UCONN and Gatemen teammate Matt Barnes is ranked #7. Barnes was one of the more dominent right-handed pitchers on the Cape last summer before he too joined Team USA in July. Barnes and Springer are two of the main reasons why UCONN is ranked in the top 15 nationally in the preseason by many publications.

Jed Bradley (Georgia Tech) is Baseball America's 10th ranked prospect overall and the 2nd ranked left-handed pitching prospect heading into 2011. Bradley was a 2010 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star for Wareham last summer and headlines an impressive starting rotation at Georgia Tech.

The third Wareham Gatemen to accept and invitation to play for team USA in 2010 is perhaps one of the best hitters in college baseball. Alex Dickerson (Indiana), who won the triple crown in the Big Ten Conference last year, is the 19th ranked draft prospect. Dickerson, along with Springer, Barnes and Bradley have all been mentioned by a varitety of college baseball outlets as preseason all-americans.

The Cape Cod Baseball League Western Conference MVP from last year's CCBL All-Star Game played at Fenway Park was Gatemen OF/3B Zach Wilson from Arizona State. The two year Gatemen player has been ranked #37 by BA is is once again in the middle of a deep and talented Sun Devil lineup in 2011. One of the most consistently dominent pitchers in the CCBL over the past two seasons, Jack Armstrong (Vanderbilt) is #46 on the list. The 2009 CCBL All-Star is the son of former MLB All-Star Jack Armstrong who also played for the Wareham Gatemen.

2010 Gatemen infielder Tyler Bream (Liberty), also the son of a former Major Leaguer, checks in at #76. Bream was a 2010 CCBL All-Star and was named the winner of the Francis Tripp Award by the Wareham Gatemen Organization; given to the player that best represents the organization both on the field and within the community.

Rounding out the Gatemen among top top 100 draft prospects for 2011 is 2009 player Cole Green from the University of Texas. Green is part of one of the best starting rotations in college baseball. He started Wareham's one game playoff vs. the Cotuit Kettleers in 2009.
