The NSC Minnesota Stars began their 2011 North American Soccer League season with a 2-1 road win against the Atlanta Silverbacks. Kentaro Takada scored early in the second half for the Stars before Matt Horth's equalizer in the 64th minute for Atlanta. The game appeared to be heading for a draw before Andrei Gotsmanov's stoppage time free kick redirected into the net off the hands of Atlanta goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer to give the Stars a season opening win on the road.
