Minnesota United FC News Release

BLAINE, Minn. (February 21, 2011) -- The NSC Minnesota Stars have agreed to terms with defender and assistant coach Kevin Friedland. Friedland will continue in his role as player-coach and has added additional duties in the Stars' front office. The Stars have also parted ways with veteran defender Andres Arango by mutual consent.

Friedland, a 29-year-old Irvine, Calif., native, appeared in 22 games last season for the Stars at outside back. He tallied three assists in 1,585 minutes. 2011 will be his eighth season playing professionally in Minnesota. A business major at Southern Methodist University, Friedland will also play a role in the Stars' front office developing business relations and sponsorship.

"A player of Kevin's experience in this league will be hugely beneficial, doubly so because of his coaching role," said Manny Lagos, NSC Minnesota head coach and director of soccer operations.

The Stars have also agreed to terminate Colmbian-born defender Arango's contract by mutual consent. The former Canadian U-20 and U-23 international played one season for the Stars after two seasons for the Minnesota Thunder.

"At the end of the day, Andres would like a new experience and does not want to be here," Lagos said. "Once a player has that mindset, it can become a detriment to the whole club and what we are trying to accomplish. Obviously, we are disappointed, but the club will move on and continue working hard to find quality players."

NSC Minnesota Stars season tickets are on sale. Season tickets start at $135 for adult general admission or $75 for youth age 17 or younger. Season tickets are also available in reserved and pitch-side seats. Single-game tickets will be available beginning March 15. To order tickets, call (763) 792-7355.
