August 4, 2004 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) News Release
Texas Thunder
Last Week: Texas went 4-3 last week, including a 3-3 mark against the Akron Racers in Akron. The Thunder was forced to make up an entire series in Akron due to rainouts earlier in the season. In the Thunder's three wins against the Racers, pitchers Lindsay Chouinard, Peaches James and Meg Young all picked up victories.
This Week: The Thunder will conclude their stretch of 10 games in six days when the Arizona Heat visits Houston. Texas and Arizona will play four games this series due to a rainout in Tucson on July 17. Texas will conclude the week in Montclair, NJ to take on the Juggernaut.
Akron Racers
Last Week: Akron continues to remain in the top two in the league standings after a 4-3 week. Akron dropped their first game of the week to the NE Riptide before splitting the six-game series with the Texas Thunder. Nicole Trimboli, Trena Peel and Iyhia McMichale continued their hot-hitting this season, as they all sit in first or second in several offensive categories.
This Week: The Racers will play a pivotal series with the NY/NJ Juggernaut beginning on August 4. The Racers will then travel west to take on the struggling California Sunbirds.
NY/NJ Juggernaut
Last Week: NY/NJ enters the toughest stretch of the season as winners in five consecutive games. The Nauts began the week by taking a doubleheader from the Arizona Heat. The team then traveled to New England where they swept the Riptide. Kaci Clark picked up a victory in each series and was named player of the week for her efforts.
This Week: The Juggernaut will play probably their toughest stretch of games this season when the Racers and Thunder each will visit NY/NJ. The six-game stretch may be a determining factor in the final regular season standings.
New England Riptide
Last Week: New England got the week started off on the right foot by defeating the Akron Racers in the series finale in Akron. The âTide then returned home where they were swept in by the NY/NJ Juggernaut. New England lost each game by one run, but they scored only two runs total in the series. The Riptide lost two games in the standings to their closest competitor, the Arizona Heat.
This Week: The Riptide begin the week with a series that may help them stretch their two game lead over the Heat to four, maybe five games, as they are in Stockton to take on the Sunbirds. New England will then visit the Arizona Heat beginning on August 8.
Arizona Heat
Last Week: Arizona's week got started poorly, as they were swept by the Juggernaut in a doubleheader in NY/NJ. The team then responded by sweeping the three game series with the struggling California Sunbirds. The sweep for the Heat was the first ever for the first -year franchise. It was also the team's first three-game winning streak.
This Week: The Heat will begin a four-game series with the Texas Thunder this week in Texas beginning on August 4. Arizona will then return home to take on the New England Riptide in a series that may help to decide the fourth team in the 2004 playoffs.
California Sunbirds
Last Week: California's struggles continued last week as they dropped the four games they played. The Sunbirds began the week by losing to the Texas Thunder in the series finale of that series. The team then traveled to Arizona where they were swept by the Heat. The main struggle for the Sunbirds remains to be injuries to the pitching staff. "Everyday" Jodie Cox and Kirsten Voak remain the only two pitchers for California.
This Week: The Sunbirds return home to begin the week in a three-game series with the New England Riptide. California will remain at home to take on the Akron Racers beginning on Sunday, August 8.
