Outfielder Nic Jackson of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks was named Northern League Player of the Week, and Gary SouthShore RailCats pitcher Tony Cogan received the Northern League Pitcher of the Week honors for the period ending July 26th , 2009.

He led the league with a .958 slugging percentage in that span and had zero strikeouts in 27 plate appearances. He also extended his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest active streak in the league. In the week, he collected two or more hits in five of six games and now has 29 multi-hit games on the season.
The left-handed hitting all-star outfielder signed with the RedHawks on April 3, 2009 after playing for Camden (Atlantic League) in â08. He finished last year fourth in the league in batting (.333) and ranked second in doubles (36). As well as leading the Northern League in batting this year, he currently leads the league in RBI (58), hits (85), doubles (20), and is also tied for fourth in home runs (13).
The 6-3, 200-pounder, is an eight-year veteran and former third round draft pick (76th pick overall) of the Chicago Cubs in the 2000 Amateur Draft out of the University of Richmond (Richmond, VA). Over his career, he spent parts of two seasons at Triple-A and three years at Double-A. Besides the Cubs, he also played for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies organizations.
Cogan, who received the Pitcher of the Week award for the second straight week, did not allow an earned run over eight innings in his only start of the week. While his consecutive scoreless innings streak ended at 24 with an unearned run in the eighth inning on July 22nd , he has only allowed one earned run over his last four starts, a span of 32 innings (0.28 ERA). On the week, he went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA yielding only five hits over eight innings while striking out three in his only appearance.
The left-hander has now lowered his ERA to 3.52 on the season, which ranks seventh in the league. He also ranks fourth in wins (6) and third in strikeouts (65).
The 6-2, 200-pounder was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 12th round of the 1999 Amateur Draft. He debuted in the major leagues in only his third season of professional ball in 2001, pitching 39 games in relief for the Royals. He joined the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the '03 season, however, by mid-April he landed on the disabled list and eventually had to have shoulder surgery.
Cogan becomes the first two-time award winner of the 2009 season after having received the Pitcher of the Week (July 13th - 19th ) award on July 20th . He is no stranger to the feat having twice been named Pitcher of the Week in 2008 (May 26th - June 1st and August 25th - 31st ).
