Traverse City North Stars News Release

TRAVERSE CITY - It seems that the Traverse City North Stars' recent nine-day, seven-game whirlwind hockey marathon didn't take the starch out of the team, as TC capped the run with a 1-0-2 weekend, collecting four of six points. And no Stars shined brighter than winger Harrison Niemann and centerman Nate Urbaniak.

Niemann's nine-point combustion over the three-game stretch earned him North American Hockey League North Division Player of the Week honors, while Urbaniak's seven-point outburst garnered him an honorable mention for the same award.

Niemann started his weekend with a team-record four-goal spurt on Thursday in Marquette, followed that with his first career 'playmaker' (three assists) in a 4-1 drubbing of Team USA on Friday, and dealt a pair of helpers in the weekend finale on Saturday - all of this beginning just a day after he had the captain's 'C" stitched on his sweater.

"Nemo just continues to leads us, both on and off the ice," said Stars head coach/GM Anthony Palumbo. "He's been very consistent on both ends of the ice, and he's one of the main reasons we took four of six points this weekend."

Urbaniak - who won NAHL North Player of the Week accolades back in late November - had a playmaker of his own on Thursday, tallied twice on Friday, and set up another lamplighter on Saturday.

Both players continue to climb among the league scoring leaders, as Niemann (Canton, MI/Omaha USHL) is now tied for 12th with 17 goals and 27 assists, while 'Urbs' (Perrysburg, OH/Toledo Jr B CSHL) is tied for 15th with 42 points in 40 contests.

Niemann, Urbaniak and the rest of the North Stars head to Ann Arbor on Tuesday to face off against the U.S. National Team Development Program's Under-17 squad. Traverse City then welcomes Alpena to Centre ICE arena on Friday before heading to the IceDiggers' rink on Saturday.
