WALPOLE, MASS. - Chicago forward James Albrect scored a clutch even- strength goal with 50 seconds to play on Tuesday, and St. Louis' Brad Smith added an empty-netter for Team Miller, as the North Division all-stars wrapped up the three-day NAHL Top Prospects Tournament at the Iorio Ice Arena in suburban Boston.
Traverse City netkeep Tyler Marble (Howell, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) made 20 saves to earn the victory - his second straight in the tourney. For the second straight game, Stars defenseman Travis White (Sterling Hts., MI/TC North Stars) chipped in with an assist, and finished tied for the best plus-minus rating (+6) among event participants. Kelin Ainsworth (Thunder Bay, ONT/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) ended with eight shots and was even in three appearances for Team Miller.
"It was a good tournament, and it did what I think it was designed to do, and that's to add to the league's exposure," said TC head coach/ GM Anthony Palumbo, who coached the Team Miller all-stars. "We didn't start off as crisp (in Sunday's loss), but we got the competitive juices going as the event wore on."
Each of the four all-star teams were named for NAHL alums who have gone on to star in the NHL ranks (Ryan Miller, David Legwand, Doug Weight, Brian Rafalski). The jerseys worn by the players during the three-day round-robin are up for auction through Dec. 11 at www.nahl.com/auction.
The North Stars (14-10-1) return to regular season NAHL action on Friday, opening a two-game series at Port Huron (1-20-1) against the Fighting Falcons.
