Published on January 25, 2006 under National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
In Week Four the player awards favor strong defensive performances as two goaltenders and a rookie defenseman are honored. Minnesota Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson was named the Overall Player of the Week, Portland LumberJax goaltender Dallas Eliuk earned Defensive Player of the Week honors and LumberJax defenseman Brodie Merrill was named the Rookie of the Week. On the other side of the ball, Philadelphia Wings forward Jake Bergey took home the Offensive Player of the Week Award for Week Four.
Minnesota Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson was named the Overall Player of the Week for Week Four. Patterson recorded 47 saves and allowed eight goals in leading Minnesota to a 12-8 road win over the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday. Patterson, who was the Week Sixteen Defensive Player of the Week in 2005, grabs his first career Overall Player of the Week honors. Patterson did not play on Saturday in Minnesota's 12-6 loss to Rochester.
Jake Bergey was named the Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Philadelphia Wings to a 10-7 win over the San Jose Stealth on Saturday. Bergey scored four goals, including the game-winning goal, and collected two loose balls in the contest, leading the Wings to their third consecutive road win.
Portland LumberJax goaltender Dallas Eliuk was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week Four. Eliuk, now in his sixteenth season, allowed eleven goals on 64 shots to lead Portland a 12-11 win over the Colorado Mammoth. Eliuk's teammate, rookie defenseman Brodie Merrill was also honored with a Week Four award, being named Rookie of the Week. The 2005 Number One Entry Draft pick collected 13 loose balls and scored a goal and added an assist in the LumberJax win. The LumberJax win came in their inaugural home game and was the first ever franchise win. Merrill and Eliuk become the first LumberJax players to earn Weekly Awards.
