
NLL Playoffs Update

Ten teams in contention for eight playoff spots as league enters final three weeks of regular season; four teams with a chance to clinch this weekend
The level of parity has never been higher as the NLL enters the final three weeks of the 2006 regular season. All eight playoff berths remain up for grabs, with ten of the league's eleven teams competing for the chance to reach the postseason. The upcoming weekend of games (March 31-April 2) mark Week #14 of the 16-week regular season. For the first time in this incredibly tight race, there are four teams with a chance to finall punch their ticket to the playoffs.
The league has determined the following scenarios with regards to teams having a chance to clinch a playoff berth this weekend:
In the Eastern Division, Buffalo (7-4) can clinch a playoff berth this weekend with a win at San Jose on Friday AND a win at Arizona on Saturday.
Other teams have a chance to clinch the playoffs this weekend by winning their games and getting some help from others.
In the Western Division, Colorado (7-5) can clinch a playoff berth this weekend. A Buffalo win in Arizona on Saturday, a Calgary win over San Jose on Saturday AND a Colorado win over Arizona on Sunday evening will clinch a playoff berth for Colorado.
Calgary (7-5) can clinch a playoff berth this weekend. A Buffalo win in San Jose on Friday, a Buffalo win in Arizona on Saturday, a Calgary win over San Jose on Saturday AND a Colorado win over Arizona on Sunday evening will clinch a playoff berth for Calgary.
Portland (6-5) can clinch a playoff berth this weekend with a pair of wins and some help. A pair of Portland wins over Edmonton on Friday and Sunday, a Calgary win over San Jose on Saturday, a Colorado win over Arizona on Sunday, AND a pair of wins by Buffalo this weekend (at San Jose and at Arizona) will clinch a playoff berth for Portland.
It's also worth noting that all ten teams in playoff contention can control their own post-season destiny by winning their remaining regular season games. ###
The 2006 National Lacrosse League Playoffs will feature eight teams competing for Champion's Cup. The playoff games, which are single-game elimination, begin on the weekend of April 21-23 and conclude with the Championship Game, to be played on the weekend of May 12-14.
The top four teams in the Eastern and Western Divisions at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the playoffs. The eight-team playoff field will be determined once the regular season concludes on Saturday, April 15.
