
NLL Announces All-Star Lineups

(New York City)--The National Lacrosse League has announced the starting and reserve players chosen to play in the 2002 NLL All-Star Game, to be played on Sunday April 21st at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The All-Star Game Weekend will take place one week after the NLLChampions Cup Final (weekend of April 12-14), and will officially close out the 2001-2002 season.
The All-Star Game will be played in a North versus South format. The North team will consist of players chosen from six teams: all five of the League's teams from Canada (Calgary Roughnecks, Montreal Express, Ottawa Rebel, Toronto Rock and Vancouver Ravens) and the Rochester Knighthawks. The South team will consist of players chosen from seven teams in the United States (Albany Attack, Buffalo Bandits, Columbus Landsharks, New Jersey Storm, New York Saints, Philadelphia Wings and Washington Power). Each of the League's thirteen member clubs have at least one player chosen to play in the All-Star Game.
The North Team starters are:
Goaltender: BobWatson-Toronto (11.54 GAA)
Defensemen: Pat Coyle-Toronto (4G, 12A, 16P) and Jim Veltman-Toronto (16G, 37A, 53P)
Forwards: Chris Gill-Vancouver (53G, 37A, 90P), John Grant-Rochester (52G, 53A, 105P), and Colin Doyle-Toronto (47G, 33A, 80P)
The South Team starters are:
Goaltender: Rob Blasdell-Albany (12.01 GAA)
Defensemen: Cam Woods-Albany (8G, 15A 23P) and Paul Cantabene-Washington (18G, 40A, 58A)
Forwards: Paul Gait-Washington (54G, 60A, 114P), Gary Gait-Washington (50G, 61A, 111P) and Josh Sanderson-Albany (35G, 68A, 103P).
The starting lineups were selected in part by the fans, who voted online at the League's Official Website, www.NationalLacrosse.com. The total number of fans voting was close to 3,500. The online vote was powered by SportsVue Interactive Media. The fan vote counted for one-third of the total vote. The Head Coaches & General Managers vote, along with the vote of the League's covering media, each counted for one-third of the total vote. The reserves were selected by the League Office and the head coaches of the North and South teams.
The 2002 NLL All-Star Weekend will kick off on Saturday, April 20th with the League Awards Presentation and Party, 6:30 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun. The party includes a buffet, cash bar and live entertainment. Tickets are $95 per person. The 2002 All-Star Game will be played on Sunday, April 21st at 2 p.m., at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Tickets are $40, $25, and $10. Fans can purchase tickets to both events by calling Tickets.com at 1-800-477-6849 or online at http://www.tickets.com/. The game will be carried live in the United States on the CNN/Sports Illustrated Network on Sunday, April 21st at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. For fans in Canada, Rogers Sportsnet is planning a tape delay broadcast, time and date TBA.
