
Nighthawks Sign Former NBA G League Guard, Cat Barber

GUELPH, ON - Cat Barber joins the Guelph Nighthawks with a wealth of professional experience both in the NBA G-League and overseas in Israel, Italy and Germany.
Barber attended Hampton High School, where he was a standout while averaging 21 points during his sophomore year. He was named to the All-Eastern Regions first team, and led his school to a 27-6 record in 2012. He earned Class AAA Player of the Year honors in 2012, and finished his high school career with 2,097 points. Barber was ranked fourth amongst the 2013 point guard class, and signed with North Carolina State in 2012. In 2015-16, he was named to first team All-ACC, and led the conference with averages of 25 points and a conference high 39 minutes per game. In his three seasons with the WolfPack, he played in 104 games and averaged 15 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. He finished his college career 13th in NC State history for scoring.
After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft, Barber signed with the Philadelphia Sixers. Soon after he was assigned to the Delaware 87ers of the NBA G-League. Later traded to the Greensboro Swarm, Barber averaged 17 points, 5 assists and 3.5 rebounds. Barber signed with Ironi Nahariya in Israel in that March, where he scored a season-high 25 points. In November of 2019, he returned to the Swarm where he was named G-League Player of the week on February 3, where he averaged 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists per game. In 2019, Barber spent time with both the Erie Bayhawks, averaging 22.4 PPG over 14 games, and the College Park Skyhawks, averaging 22.9 PPG over 39 games. Most recently, Barber spent time overseas with Mitteldeutscher BC of the German-BBL.

The Nighthawks start their CEBL 2021 season on June 8. All games are available on CBCSports.ca and the CBC Gem App via Android or iOS devices.
The CEBL led the NHL, NBA and later the CPL in returning to play in Canada after the coronavirus shut down the sports world in March of 2020. The CEBL Summer Series put professional basketball on the television and digital screens of millions of viewers across Canada and around the world, establishing the league as the top Canadian-based global team sports brand. The 2021 season set to start on June 5, will build on that momentum with an expanded viewing audience around the world, and locally through an innovative approach to addressing the uncertainties due to the pandemic around having fans in arenas across the league.
