Guelph Nighthawks News Release
Guelph, ON - The Guelph Nighthawks formally announced their first free agency move today, re-signing American guard Michael Bryson to a standard player contract for the 2022 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season. At twenty seven years old, Bryson returns to the Nighthawks with a wealth of professional experience, including four years in the NBA G-League and three years overseas internationally. Bryson previously joined the Guelph Nighthawks in the latter half of the 2021 season and quickly showcased himself as one of the top 3-point shooters in the league. In his six games with the team, Bryson averaged 18 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 3-point FG's per game on 39% shooting from behind the arc.
"Michael joined the Nighthawks midway through the 2021 season and immediately proved himself as one of the CEBL's best 3-point shooters. Bryson's acquisition was one of the key reasons behind the club's strong regular season finish last season. Now with a full season in front of him Michael has the opportunity to prove himself as one of the top players in the CEBL," said Charles Kissi, Head Coach & GM of the Nighthawks.
The 6-foot-4 guard attended UC Santa Barbara averaging 18.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in all 32 games played in his senior season. His versatility and consistency got him a spot on the All-Big West First Team in his junior and senior years.
Bryson was selected eighth overall in the 2016 NBA Development Draft by the Northern Arizona Suns. In the seasons that followed, Bryson spent time with the Iowa Wolves and the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G-League.
Currently, Bryson is playing with the PVSK Panthers of the National Championship I/A in Hungary, averaging 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and shooting 42% from 3-point range.
