NORFOLK, Oct. 31, 2002 -- The Norfolk Nighthawks announced the hiring of Rick Frazier as their new head coach for the 2003 season. Rick Frazier was the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the Arena 1 Toronto Phantoms in 2002.
Prior to the Toronto job, Frazier was head coach of the Arena 1 Milwaukee Mustangs from 1998 to 2001. Frazier is credited with superb defensive and special teams play with both teams. Frazier was in Norfolk to meet with General Manager Ken Easley for four hours diagramming plays and discussing Arena Football before a decision was made.
"Rick is a dynamic personality and a great teacher," said Easley. "He has a wealth of knowledge in all facets of the Arena game and is a tremendous motivator of players. He will fit in nicely with this organization."
As head coach, Rick Frazier will work directly with defense and assist Keith Easley with special teams. Ron Hill will remain offensive coordinator and Frazier will hire a new line coach to complete the staff hiring for 2003. Frazier will be present and directing drills at the Nighthawks next try-out camp scheduled for November 23rd at Hampton University.
Frazier began his coaching career in 1976 after graduating from East Texas State University (BS Phys. Ed. ¹76 & M. Ed Phys. Ed. ¹80). In the years since, he has compiled a most impressive resume winning at all levels of the game, high school, college and pro.
Rick is the proud father of a son Donnie Joe and twin daughters, Jolenna and Brianna.
