NIFL heads into league meetings with expansion in mind
Published on January 18, 2006 under National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release
National Indoor Football League President Carolyn Shiver will meet with team owners and various league personnel on Thursday, January 19th and Friday, January 20th as the 2006 NIFL season takes on a new look for it's sixth season of operation. Shiver will preside over the two day agenda in Houston as the league makes preparations for the 14 game regular season schedule which begins in March, as the core teams of the NIFL welcome a number of expansion teams ready to hop on board to make the NIFL the premier league in the USA for indoor football.
"With our sixth year approaching," says Shiver, "the NIFL has proven beyond doubt that it is a league of stability, and ready to take on the exciting challenge of new growth. The owners of the expansion teams are dedicated, proven business men and women who have embraced our league, and are geared up to provide fast paced indoor football and family entertainment to their respective areas. I know I speak for everyone when I say we're pleased to have them on board."
Shiver says the NIFL approached the expansion issue with optimism and caution. "Like any other business, our league has had it's ups and downs, but it has met adversity head on, and to use the football cliche, we've scored more often than not when in the red zone. We've adjusted our operations structure when necessary, most recently appointing an executive committee comprised of elected representatives from each division to take over the day-to-day business of the league. Each of the 26 franchise teams that begin play in March will be competitive, financially sound, and have a focused leadership base. Our fan base, nationwide, is solid and growing. I'm excited about 2006!"
The Hilton Garden Inn will be the focal point of the two day affair, with game day operations, media, scheduling and travel on the agenda. Attention will also be devoted to rules changes, financial matters, and insurance.
Expansion owners are ready to attend their first league meetings, using this second round of league talks to reap benefit from the current teams, and have a platform by which to outline strategy for a successful inaugural campaign.
The expansion teams of the National Indoor Football League are as follows:
Bozeman, Montana
Chattanooga, Tennessee
Fayetteville, Arkansas
Greensboro, North Carolina
Hammond, Louisiana
Katy, Texas
Osceola, Florida
Rapid City, South Dakota
Four other franchise sites will be listed in the near future, pending confirmation of individual team corporate structure.
